More than Ten Thousand Individuals have signed the Petition to Free Former Ghana FA President Kwesi Nyantekyi, with the Ashanti Region having the most number of Signatories.
The Ashanti Region alone has over 6,00 persons from all walks of life appending their signature to the petition that is calling on the President of Ghana and the Attorney General to drop charges pressed against the Former FIFA executive council member.
Other regions to record significant numbers are the Greater Accra, and the 5 regions of the North.
Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi is a former President of the Ghana Football Association(GFA), a former President of Zone B of the West Africa Football Union, a former Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and a former Council Member of the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA).
He is currently standing trial in Ghana after Journalist Anas Aremeyaw Documentary of 2018 captured him and many others alleging a number of Unethical claims.
Prior to the court case FIFA had banned Mr Nyantakyi for various breaches of its code of ethics. The Deputy Attorney General Mr Godfred Dame said FIFA relied on evidence presented by the Government of Ghana to Mr Nyantakyi.
In the circumstances the petitioners feel Mr Nyantakyi had been unduly and unfairly treated considering the circumstances and nature of the case as a set up and the contributions of Mr Nyantakyi to the development of football in Ghana.
The petitioners therefore wish to respectfully request His Excellency, The President of the Republic and the Honorable Attorney General to exercise their discretion of clemency and free Mr Nyantakyi from all criminal investigations and prosecution in Ghana based on the Anas expose of 2018.
