The National Sports Authority (NSA) Boss, Professor Peter Twumasi has disclosed that renovation work ongoing at the Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium will be ready very soon to host sports events before the year ends.
After almost ten months closure for renovations, works began at the famous Baba Yara stadium back in February before Ghana’s 63rd Independence celebration in March 2020 due to the stadium’s deplorable state that necessitated the action and as a result, all sporting activities including football and athletics were halted, forcing users of the stadium to find other facilities to use.
The decision to close down the stadium for refurbishment affected Ghana Premier League sides Asante Kotoko and King Faisal who use the facility for their home matches in the Ghanaian top flight.
After months of intensive works at the stadium, the facility will be made available to use early next year as revealed by the Director General of the NSA Professor Peter Twumasi, who reacted to a question asked by a user on his Facebook page.
According to the NSA boss to Sports Crona, although the contract with the operators will end in March 2021, the swift response and attention from the contractors will see the facility uplifted by end of this year.
He disclosed, tartan materials, seats, drainage systems for the pitch, scoreboard, LED Light systems, etc have all arrived with installation rapidly advancing.
This latest development will come as a good news for both Premier League and Division One League clubs based in Kumasi who are noted for using the facility to host their home matches. Credit:
